![]() The performance was much better at my house where I have gigabit speed internet. To start, I recommend that you have a good internet connection. However, I did discover some tips to improve Mass Effect's performance on a Chromebook. The game sometimes buffered extensively during combat, although that's not such a big deal in the first game, where battles have a slower pace. Dialogue interactions felt pretty good, but even just walking through the starship Normandy's corridors would cause the game to stutter. While Mass Effect is still as amazing as ever, the Chromebook is probably not the right system for it. But by the end, Mass Effect had created a setting that still holds up against the greatest modern open-world games. The first game is more straightforward, as the open-world revolution simply had not begun yet when it came out. BioWare created entire planets, races, and histories, and expanded these concepts through quests and exploration. But the Reapers are your main enemy throughout the series.Īs incredible as the main story is (except perhaps for Mass Effect 3's controversial ending), the real beauty of the game lies in its world-building (or perhaps galaxy-building). Mass Effect 2 takes a brief detour as you combat the Illusive Man, a xenophobic power player in galactic affairs, voiced by Martin Sheen. This race of alien/machine hybrids causes mass extinction events across the galaxy every 50,000 years. If you’ve never played any of the games before, the trilogy follows Commander John (or Jane) Shepard as they fight the Reapers. As I sat in my parents’ house over this past Thanksgiving weekend, I decided to see if I could stream the game to a Chromebook, and have been testing it ever since.īefore getting into my Chromebook testing, I need to sing the praises of the Mass Effect trilogy a bit. That same subscription also gives you access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which includes Mass Effect Legendary Edition. That's especially true, as the game is part of Electronic Arts' EA Play, which you can access as part of your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Luckily, Mass Effect Legendary Edition eliminates the need for that debate. Do you pay for old content, or risk missing out on incredible storylines? Considering that DLC like Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel were as great as the mainline games themselves, deciding whether to forego the DLC was a genuine dilemma. And despite being more than a decade old, you used to have to pay full price for the DLC. While fans adore the franchise (Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game), they didn’t age gracefully in every aspect. It may have been 17 years since Mass Effect released, but this comprehensive collection means there’s never been a better time to go back, or set out on a truly unforgettable journey. For those unfamiliar with Mass Effect, it's a third-person shooter/role-playing game that becomes more of an action/adventure game in the second and third games. Mass Effect Legendary Edition ensures that the games look good enough to meet today’s standards, but crucially, it keeps the series’ soul intact. There’s countless hours of entertainment to enjoy here, too, and even though we all have our personal favorite, all three Mass Effect games are genuinely worthy of your time. ![]() And I can’t help but feel slightly envious of those who get to experience one of the finest stories ever penned in video game history for the very first time. Right now, it’s fantastic that players who may have missed out on the Mass Effect series can finally embark on their own planet-hopping adventure. Nevertheless, we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds. Dragon Age 4 is the studio’s next roll of the dice however, it’s hard to predict whether it will be a triumphant return or another stain on the developers' once illustrious name. ![]() And it’s something that’s hard to ignore.Īnthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda, to put it lightly, sullied the acclaimed studio’s reputation, with many wondering if BioWare will ever be able to reach the heady heights of the past. As wonderful as it is to step foot on the Normandy again, mine planets for precious resources and marvel at Wrex’s gorgeous Krogan face in super-sharp 4K, it also serves as a bittersweet reminder of what BioWare were once capable of.
